Transport / Single vessel again on Yell Sound after storm damage to ferry

Photo: SIC

ONE of the Yell Sound ferries was damaged in Saturday’s high winds – meaning that the service will operate with a single vessel on Monday and Tuesday.

The damage to the Dagalien will require repair and inspection.

Repairs are currently underway but these will have to be certified by an inspector, who it is hoped will arrive in Shetland tomorrow or Tuesday.

Services on Monday and Tuesday will run to the shift vessel timetable. All bookings will be suspended and ferry crew will endeavour to put in extra runs wherever possible.

Shetland Islands Council said it would like to apologise for any inconvenience to passengers.

It comes after a crewing shortage reduced the Yell Sound service to a single vessel earlier this month. Bluemull sound was also single vessel last week as a result of crew sickness.

Explanation was offered on the crewing issues which have affected in the North Isles in recent weeks.
