Sentence deferred on woman who abused her partner
A WOMAN who domestically abused her partner over the course of more than two years has had her case deferred for reports.
Aleksandra Sokolowska, 26, admitted engaging in a course of abusive behaviour towards her partner between 1 August 2023 and 13 November 2025.
The incidents occurred at the couple’s home in Sandveien, Lerwick, an address in King Harald Street and at the “Brae police hostel”.
Sokolowska struck her partner in the head with a chopping board on one occasion, repeatedly threatened him verbally and placed her arm around his neck in a chokehold on another occasion.
She also admitted to repeatedly shouting and swearing at him, punching and pushing him on the head and body, and also biting him on the body.
Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald said she would be seeking reports before sentencing Sokolowska.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie did not provide a narration on this occasion, but did offer some more information to the sheriff about the case.
He said the complainer and Sokolowska were trying to continue their relationship, and that the pair had moved to Shetland together.
Mackenzie said they had no family support system and a young child, which had caused significant difficulties for them.
He said Sokolowska had an “unhealthy relationship with alcohol”, which could offer some context to some of the offending.
Sheriff MacDonald deferred sentencing for the preparation of a criminal justice social work report. Sokolowska will return for sentencing on 8 July.
