Court round-up 21 October 2026

A FISHERMAN has been banned from holding a driving licence for a year and given a £600 fine after admitting two road traffic offences.

Karl Manson, of Da Vadill in Lerwick, admitted driving a van in the town without insurance or a valid licence on 27 June.

Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the 26-year-old was stopped by police at around 1.30pm as part of a routine check.

Manson, who only had a provisional licence, was found not to have any insurance policy in place, while there were no L-plates on the vehicle.

Mackenzie, however, said he did get insurance in place a couple of days later.

A MAN from Nesting was given a £450 fine and six penalty points after admitting driving without insurance on Scalloway’s Main Street on 24 April.

Lerwick Sheriff Court heard on Wednesday how Scott Young, 28, was stopped by police following a routine check.

He was offered a fixed penalty at the time that was worth six points and a fine of £300.

Mackenzie said Young failed to deal with the matter through the fixed penalty, leading to it coming to court – ultimately increasing the fine in the process.
