Cunningsburgh man ordered not to contact woman

A CUNNINGSBURGH man who behaved aggressively towards a woman has been ordered not to contact her for one year.

Calum Leslie, 38, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards the woman at an address in Cunningsburgh on or between 1 April and 31 May 2026.

Leslie pleaded guilty to an amended charge at Lerwick Sheriff Court this morning (Thursday), just before the case was due to go to trial.

The court heard that the pair had been friends, with procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie adding that both had significant difficulties with alcohol.

On the occasion in question, the woman’s husband had been sleeping upstairs when he woke with Leslie shouting downstairs in the early hours of the morning.

He had to escort Leslie from his house.

Mackenzie said that there been no direct physical violence, but that the victim had been left “distressed” by the incident.

He called for a non-harassment order to be imposed on Leslie not to approach or contact the woman, adding it “might help both set boundaries”.

Defence agent Tommy Allan said Leslie and the complainer shared a common interest in music, as well as in drinking alcohol.

He said the chaotic nature of their joint situation meant there was no exact date for when the incident occurred.

Leslie had since taken himself away from the area to restrict his reliance on alcohol, Allan said.

The solicitor added that his client had no opposition to the imposition of a non-harassment order, and said he would not be making any attempts to speak to her.

Sheriff Jennifer Gear fined Leslie £600 and ordered him not to approach or contact the woman for 12 months.
