  • Dagalien’s return delayed
  • Summer plants in town centre
  • Cousins get into World Cup spirit

THE YELL Sound ferry will remain running with a single vessel for longer than anticipated due to crew availability issues.

The Dagalien has been in dry dock for a number of weeks, leaving Yell Sound running with a single vessel, and was due to return to service on Thursday (18 June).

However, the council has now confirmed that her return to service has been delayed.

The service for Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June will be a single vessel running to the shift timetable.

Arrangements for bookings on these days will be as follows:

Ulsta – Toft 0515, 0615 and 0705 – normal service with bookings.
Toft – Ulsta 0545, 0640 and 0745 – normal service with bookings.

Bookings each day on all runs after these times are no longer valid until bookings resume at 5.35pm from Ulsta.

Normal weekend services will operate on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June.

The usual relief vessel Fivla is currently covering for the Leirna on the Bressay route. The Leirna is currently in Fraserburgh and is due to return at the end of June.

Photo: Living Lerwick

LERWICK town centre received an extra splash of colour this week after summer plants were distributed though the area – with shops also decorating windows to mark the start of the football World Cup.

Living Lerwick have engaged local suppliers, Da Barn and Shetland Garden Co. to provide the summer planting this year.

Da Barn distributed 66 hanging baskets and 18 tub planters this past week, with staff and participants from the Garden Co. weeding and planting 11 large planters through the street and 16 boxes at the Harrison Square.

A grant of £1,000 was provided towards the cost of the summer plants by Lerwick Community Council, with the rest coming from income generated by the Living Lerwick levy.

Those visiting the town centre in the coming weeks can take part in the World Cup 2026 sticker trail.

By collecting an entry form from Westside Pine, bairns can colect country flag stickers from participating businesses.

They can submit their entry back to Westside Pine to be in with a chance of winning one of three prizes – a footfall shirt of their choice, a World Cup football, donated by Intersport, or a craft activity pack. The trail runs until Sunday 19 July.
