Transport manager set to retire
SHETLAND’S transport chief is set to retire this summer.
Michael Craigie, who is also lead officer for the regional transport partnership ZetTrans, confirmed the news at the latest ZetTrans meeting this morning (Thursday).
Craigie has been in both roles for just under 20 years, and tributes were paid to him at the outset of his final ZetTrans committee meeting.
Chairwoman Moraig Lyall said Craigie had been the lead officer for ZetTrans from its inception and had given nearly two decades of dedication to the role.
“All we can do is thank him for the work he has given and wish him well in his retirement,” she said.
Robbie McGregor said it had been a “privilege” to work with Craigie while serving as ZetTrans vice-chairman over the last nine years, and he wished him all the best in his retirement.
It comes as Shetland Islands Council embarks on a major restructure, with some managers retiring and some departments set to change in the coming months and years.
Infrastructure director John Smith also announced his retirement earlier this year, leaving the council in a phased manner after more than 30 years of service.
