Packed weekend of sporting action awaits
Highland Amateur Cup final, netball Parish Cup and mixed hockey inter-county to come
A PACKED weekend of sport will see Whalsay aim to become Shetland’s first winner of the Highland Amateur Cup and Shetland try to reclaim the mixed hockey inter-county.
Unst will also be out to deny Whitedale a third straight title in the netball Parish Cup final in Lerwick, with the Shetland women’s football team in action twice in two days.
Whalsay will take on Golspie Stafford – both of whom who have never lifted the trophy – in the 2026 Highland Amateur Cup final on Saturday afternoon.
The match will be played at Harmsworth Park in Wick tomorrow, with the game kicking off at 1pm.
It is the first time Whalsay have ever made it to the final of the Highlands and Islands’ most prestigious cup competition, while Golspie Stafford are contesting their second final.
In Brae tomorrow, Shetland will look to wrestle the Joan Nicolson cup back from rivals Orkney in the mixed hockey inter-county match.
Pass back is at 2pm as the sides meet for the 13th time in the fixture, with Shetland having 10 wins already.
However Orkney are the holders of the trophy after winning last year. Captain Reece Thorne and vice-captain Janetta Williamson will aim to help the blues take charge once again.

Back in Lerwick, Whitedale will look to continue their incredible unbeaten run in the netball Parish Cup at a third straight final.
Still no team has ever beaten them in the competition, and Unst will be out to end that run in the 2026 final at the Clickimin at 4.15pm tomorrow.
The Shetland women’s football team have a massive weekend ahead of them, starting with the annual inter-county fixture against Orkney tomorrow.
The blues have named two squads for their two fixtures this weekend, with the inter-county arguably just a pre-cursor to the main event – their Scottish Cup second preliminary round tie against Aberdeen West End on Sunday.
The Orkney fixture kicks-off at 12.45pm in Kirkwall on Saturday, with the Aberdeen match starting at 12.30pm at West End park on Sunday.
Shetland Rugby also get their season started tomorrow, with the men’s side hosting Banff on the 3G North Loch pitch in Lerwick at 12pm.
The under-16 girls team will travel to face Falkirk, while the under-16 boys will host Aberdeen Wanderers in Lerwick at 12pm on Sunday.
