Whalsay’s Highland Amateur Cup final opponents confirmed
WHALSAY will meet Golspie Stafford in their first ever Highland Amateur Cup final later this month, it has been confirmed.
The two sides were set to meet on Saturday 15 August in the showpiece fixture, but the match was postponed due to an investigation into whether Golspie had field an ineligible player in the semi-final against Mallaig.
However the Sutherland side have now been cleared, and will meet Whalsay in the Highland Amateur Cup final.
The match will be played at Harmsworth Park in Wick on Saturday 29 August 29, with the game kicking off at 1pm.
It is the first time Whalsay have ever made it to the final of the Highlands and Islands’ most prestigious cup competition, while Golspie Stafford are contesting their second final.
Whalsay have had a storming end to the season, and are now just one league point away from their first premier league title in 15 years.
The Bonnie Isle team beat Scalloway 3-0 on Monday night to set up a mouthwatering winner-takes-all title clash with Celtic in the final league fixture of the season.
No date has been given for that fixture yet.
Celtic will need to beat Whalsay to secure a second league title in three seasons, while Whalsay will be champions if they avoid defeat.
