Plenty of heavy lifting at strongman and woman contest
THERE was plenty of strength on show on Saturday at this year’s Shetland strongman and woman contest.
Shyren Batziris was the winner in the men’s open section at the event, which was held in Lerwick and hosted by the Shetland Weight Training Club.
Tegan Patterson took the women’s title, with David Cockayne winning the men’s novice category.
Cameron Nisbet took home the Jonni Manson memorial cup sportsmanship award for the second year running.
Among the events were log lifts, axle bar dead lifts, farmers walk, duck walk medley and the atlas stone.
The atlas stone event saw each competitor lifting a stone over a bar – the women’s bar height being 44 inches and the men’s 48 inches.
The atlas stones increased in weight by 10kg each time.
