Sandwick win first Parish Cup in 63 years
SANDWICK have lifted the Parish Cup for the first time since 1963 with a stunning 3-1 victory over Southend.
The blues were huge favourites going into the final at the Gilbertson Park on Saturday, having steamrolled Delting and champions Burra en-route.
But Sandwick produced a massive shock by taking the lead in the first half, and they never looked back from there.
In fact as Sandwick surged into a 3-0 lead just 20 minutes into the second half, the cup final became a one-sided contest.
Supporters from Sandwick had made the journey north for the fixture, and there were large celebrations at full-time as Sandwick lifted the cup for the first time in more than six decades.
It makes Sandwick five time winners of the competition, alongside Cunningsburgh and Unst.
