Shetland win in women’s Scottish Cup again to make more history

SHETLAND women’s football team have overcome Aberdeen West End to make the first round proper of the Scottish Cup.

The blues have made more history by making it further than they have ever gone in the competition, and will be back to play the first round tie on Sunday 20 September.

An own-goal gave Shetland the lead in the first half in the Granite City, but Aberdeen West End levelled from the penalty spot after the break.

However young winger Roma Robertson repeated her heroics from the fixture against Stewarton Annick earlier this month, scoring the to make it 2-1 Shetland with time running out.

And Rhea Nicolson popped up in the dying seconds to put Shetland 3-1 and through to the next round.

The blues will now look forward to the draw for the first round of the Scottish Cup.

Meanwhile a much-changed Shetland side lost the inter-county fixture to Orkney 10-2 on Saturday afternoon.
