‘Significant blood loss’ for victim after Lerwick assault
A VICTIM was left with blood spurting from their mouth after an assault on Lerwick’s Thorfinn Street last year.
Rory Tulloch, from Annsbrae Place, Lerwick, admitted repeatedly punching his victim in the head to their severe injury on 22 November 2025.
No narration was provided at Wednesday morning’s hearing, but procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie instead told Lerwick Sheriff Court about the extent of the complainer’s injuries.
The man suffered a “significant arterial bleed to his mouth” during the assault, the fiscal said.
When police attended the man’s mouth had been bleeding for a while, and blood was “still spurting from his mouth”.
He was taken to the Gilbert Bain hospital for treatment, where it was found he had suffered significant blood loss and an elevated heart rate as a result.
The man also had a one centimetre laceration around his top lip, significant bruises around his eye and scratches on his face.
He was given intravenous fluids, and though X-rays revealed no bone damage his health consultant believed he may have suffered rib fractures.
Mackenzie explained these sometimes did not show up on X-ray results.
Against medical advice, the man discharged himself from the hospital once he had received treatment.
Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald deferred sentencing against 37-year-old Tulloch for the preparation of criminal justice social work reports.
He will return for sentencing on 8 July.
