Tesco forced to close after Wi-Fi and power outage
TESCO supermarket in Lerwick was forced to close on Sunday afternoon after a power outage across parts of Shetland.
Shoppers were greeted with sign on a door at around 3.30pm this afternoon saying that Tesco had been closed “due to no Wi-Fi”.
It said the store was unable to operate as a result.
Parts of Shetland lost power at around 1.30pm this afternoon, with some people also reporting a loss of mobile network service for a short time.
The classic car motor show at the Clickimin in Lerwick was also hit by the outage, leaving the building in the dark and card machines unable to work.
Sunday’s power cut was the latest of such outages across the isles. SSEN has been asked several times in recent weeks to explain the causes of these regular power cuts but so far the network operator has only said that there are conducting an investigation.
