Letters / Government chosen for us
The sheer callousness of the Thatcher governments should not be forgotten. She is described now as a mother and grandmother. Pity she did’t care for any other mothers or grandmothers when she was in charge.
At the absolute height of her popularity Mrs Thatcher gained 44 per cent of the UK’s popular vote. Francis Pym, cabinet minister, talked of an elected dictatorship and almost immediately was not a cabinet minister anymore.
Thatcher did not need Scotland. Scottish votes have affected the choice of UK government ONCE since the Second World War; we get our government chosen for us.
Why do we let our big neighbour down the road choose our government for us?
Yours sincerely
