This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join the highly regarded local charity Shetland Community Connections (SCC) team to be part of the team delivering the ICJ service, developed in conjunction with Macmillan for the people of Shetland.
The Improving the Cancer Journey service will engage with people affected by cancer to help them find vital support for their non-clinical concerns.
Already providing the Shared Lives and Community Connectors services, Shetland Community Connections is delighted to deliver this service to help people to live their best possible life from the point of diagnosis and throughout their cancer journey. The service has been commissioned by NHS Shetland to Shetland Community Connections for delivery and is funded by Macmillan Cancer Support.
We have 1 post of 18 hours to support individuals. The purpose of the ICJ service is to help identify sources of support that the person might engage with to relieve their non-clinical concerns. These concerns might include, but are not limited to, financial assistance, housing modifications, finding carers, transport and mobility, finding emotional support, and family or relationship concerns. Apart from anything else, the ICJ aims to be a listening ear for people to share whatever their concerns might be in a safe, confidential space. Whatever matters most to the person affected by cancer is what matters most to us.
We strongly advise having an informal chat with our Programme Manager, Tim Durbin, who will be happy to explain more about the ICJ service and our aspirations to improve the journey for those affected by cancer.
