Unable to get cheaper option

I was interested to read Mr Bjorn Sandison’s letter [‘No magic fix’, SN 27/2/17), explaining why our plane fares are high. 

I take on board, and can appreciate, his explanation as to why there is “no magic fix”.

I would, however, like to ask why, when I am trying to make a short trip to Orkney to visit some sick family members, that I am unable to get the cheaper option because my stay is too short. I can’t see any feasible reason for this other than to wrest more money from me!
