News / Whalsay girls’ fundraiser
TWO avid young Star Wars fans from Whalsay are growing their hair long as part of a fundraising effort in aid of the Little Princess Trust.
Faye Anderson and Lori Sutherland, who are both 10, decided 18 months ago to grow their hair for a Star Wars celebration so they could be like the characters Princess Leia and Rey.
After coming home from the event they decided to continue growing their hair long so they could donate it to the Little Princess Trust, which provides wigs to children with cancer to help them cope when they lose their hair.
Faye’s mum Ann Marie Anderson said the girls were aware of the cause because a few girls from Whalsay had donated to the charity prevously.
“They chose this cause because they wanted to be able to give their hair to bairns that had unfortunately lost theirs due to illness,” she said. “They thought it would be a good idea to help others.”
It is an exciting week for fans of the film franchise, with the new film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opening on Thursday.
Faye’s father Michael, of Revellers fame, is so excited he’s going to the midnight screening at Mareel while “the bairns are excited as well”, Ann Marie added.
