News / Hoolie in Hackney
THE LATEST in a series of successful Shetland nights in London will take place at a venue in Hackney on Saturday night, with food to be served by prestigious chef Anna Tobias.
It is just over a year since the last of the nights took place, organised by Helen Nisbet from Yell who lives and works in the UK capital.
The venue for a four-course dinner and dance this time around is Platform, in London Fields, and Tobias – head chef at the Rochelle Canteen, owned by Margot Henderson – will be preparing food utilising numerous Shetland ingredients.
Helen’s fiddler brother Barry Nisbet and the Reid sisters Jenna and Bethany will be playing Shetland tunes, while Barry will also be performing the score he wrote to Jenny Gilbertson’s film ‘In Sheep’s Clothing’ alongside a screening of the film. This year marks a quarter of a century since Gilbertson’s death.
Shona Main will also be introducing a screening of her film ‘Clavel’.
On the menu for the sold out event will be beremeal bannocks, mussels provided by Christopher Thomason in Cullivoe and served in a broth, along with mutton pie and rhubarb trifle.
Nisbet told Shetland News: “We have some really good chefs, journalists and food bloggers coming this time so it’s a great way to champion the incredible food and culture of wir boannie isles.”
