NO injuries were reported when a car left the road near Tingwall on Friday afternoon and landed on its roof.
The one-vehicle accident, which happened on the A971, took place at around 3.45pm.
THE NEW Fair Isle electricity scheme and Nova Innovation’s tidal project at Bluemull Sound were among the winners at this year’s Scottish Green Energy Awards.
The Fair Isle project, which has brought guaranteed 24-hour power to the remote island for the first time thanks to new turbines, a solar system and battery storage, picked up the judges’ award.
The Nova Innovation tidal array won the outstanding project award.
The Scottish Green Energy Awards ceremony, organised by Scottish Renewables, was held on Thursday night in Edinburgh.
PEOPLE in the north and west of Shetland waiting on parcels being delivered by Streamline are being given the chance to pick up their packages in Lerwick this weekend.
The shipping company is opening up its north store at Holmsgarth on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 3pm.
Managing director Gareth Crichton said deliveries to the north and west have been affected by large volumes of packages and time lost due to weather.
“This weekend we will be offering all customers in the north and west areas only, who may be waiting for parcels, the chance to come into town on Saturday or Sunday to collect,” he said on Friday.
“All parcels for the north and west areas that are in Shetland as of today, will be available. I should emphasise that deliveries will continue as usual for all other areas throughout the weekend, and the north and west will resume as normal on Monday.
“So if folk are happy to wait, then that’s fine. But for those in the north or west if there is anything urgent or parcels that folk feel should have been delivered earlier this week but haven’t been, then there is a chance to pick those up.”
THE BIGTON Shop has won a national award celebrating rural community ownership.
The shop reigned supreme in the People’s Choice category of the Plunkett Foundation’s Rural Community Ownership Awards, which were held in London this week.
The shop has enjoyed a new lease of life after going up for sale in 2012.
Rick Nickerson led the formation of a new management committee to allow the shop to open as a community enterprise, with three part-time adults and three young people employed there.
The shop also benefits from volunteers who give up their time to help out.
A THEATRICAL show written in tribute to the late actor, writer and director Ken Campbell is coming to Shetland on Monday.
Daisy Campbell will bring her Pigspurt’s Daughter show to the Lerwick Town Hall in a special performance on what would have been her father’s birthday.
The show follows Daisy’s “surreal quest to go farther than her father – when Pigspurt, the daemonic side of Ken’s personality, is summoned by Daisy through an accidental act of gastromancy, the rectal invocation of dead spirits”.
The Lerwick performance will be the last show of Daisy’s tour, which has been described as “meticulously crafted genius and a joyful ride from start to finish”.
Ken Campbell, who helped spawn the careers of actors like Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent and Bob Hoskins, considered moving to Shetland before he died in 2008.
Tickets are priced at £10 and they can be bought on the door, with the kick-off time set for 8pm.
