SHETLAND will face Scottish Women’s Championship leaders Rossvale WFC in their trickiest tie yet in the Scottish Cup.
The blues will make the long journey south once more, this time to the outskirts of Glasgow, to meet Rossvale for the first time on Sunday 11 October.
The Highlands and Islands league cup winners will take on a team who have won six of their first seven Championship fixtures this season.
The Championship is the third tier of Scottish women’s football, under two divisions of the Premier League.
Rossvale overcame Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s women’s team 4-1 on Sunday to move two points clear of second-place Bonnyrigg Rose at the summit.
The winners of the second round tie will go through to round three, where 20 Scottish women’s Premier League teams join the draw.
TABLE tennis player Joan Smith is celebrating after helping team Scotland to a gold medal at a veterans home nations event.
Joan and team-mate Joy Daniels won every one of their team matches, beating Ireland 3-2, England 3-2, and the Jersey/Scotland mixed team 5-0.
They also won every doubles match along the way, with Joan winning both singles in the final match to secure it.
In the singles, Joan got through her group matches to progress through to the knockout stages, before eventually losing 3–1 to the player who went on to finish runner-up.

STRONGMAN Andrew Goodlad finished just outside of the top three at the Scotland’s Strongest Man event in Glasgow over the weekend.

The Shetlander finished fourth out of a 26-man field at the competition at the SEC Centre following the six events on Saturday.
Goodlad seriously impressed by lifting all five atlas stones onto their podiums in a time of just 37.31 seconds.
He was also the only competitor across the whole competition who managed to lift all five atlas stones in the final event of the day.
His overall point total of 119.5 left him just six points outside of a top three finish and a podium place.
THE FIRST ever junior parkrun event in Shetland was held at the Clickimin Loch on Sunday.
A total of 41 runners took on the 2km course, which will take place every Sunday morning starting from 9.30am.
Bairns aged 4-14 can take part, alongside any grown-ups who want to join.
Race directors Lucy Livingstone and Catriona Barr said that the rain had “more or less held off” fortunately, and that there had been a “great age range of runners” for week one.
The youngest runner on Sunday had just turned four years old.
Shetland also hosts a standard parkrun event in Bressay, every Saturday morning.
