NESS United lifted the Jewson Madrid Cup on Saturday after seeing off Lerwick Spurs at Gilbertson Park.
Dylan Leishman gave Ness the lead directly from a corner before defender Tomas Smith fired them 2-0 in front.
A late Lewis Harkness goal was not enough to force extra-time, and Ness instead retained a trophy they have now won three times in four seasons.
SHETLAND beat Orkney in the annual women’s golf inter-county fixture this weekend.
The blues won 8-5 at the Orkney Golf Club in Kirkwall, with 26 players down from Shetland with a mix of players from both Whalsay and Dale clubs.
Saturday’s four-ball better ball format was played in breezy but bright conditions, with Shetland securing a healthy advantage at the close of day one.
Unfortunately, overnight rain and a downpour on Sunday morning led to a waterlogged course, forcing Sunday’s greensome to be cancelled.
An enjoyable day was held in the clubhouse instead, and the Shetland team thanked Orkney for hosting.
The blues look forward to hosting next year’s 20th fixture in Whalsay.
SOUTHSIDE Impact have been crowned winners of football’s Jewson Championship, and are still on course for an undefeated campaign.
The side from Sandwick have dropped just two league points all year, and will complete an invincible season if they can avoid defeat against Boca Seniors and Delting B later this month.
It marks a superb achievement from the club, which is playing just its second season in the league.
DIGGERS and Globetrotters continued their perfect start to the mixed volleyball league last Thursday night.
Diggers first saw off Benchwarmers 3-0, starting with a 25-14 win in the first set, but Benchwarmers surged ahead to lead set two comfortably.
However Diggers fought back and reeled their opponents in, before edging them out to win the second set 26-24 and seal the victory.
With the win secured, Diggers were able to relax and continue their momentum to win the final set 25-14 and secure a 3-0 win.
For Benchwarmers, Keira Tulloch and Jarryd Jamieson were named most valuable players, while Denise Morrison and Joel Wishart took the honours for Diggers.
Venture Globetrotters then produced a dominant performance to secure a convincing straight sets win over Rexel, starting by clinching the first set 25-10.
Set two was again a far closer affair, with Globetrotters just seeing off Rexel 25-20, which ensured victory.
Set three was more straightforward, with a 25-12 win for Globetrotters sealing the 3-0 victory.
LAST Sunday saw the Champion of Champions outdoor bowls competition played between five individuals in a round-robin format.
Taking part were Caroline Smith, Anne Robertson, Andy Walterson, Ian Leiper and Willie Coutts. Missing was Colin Bain who qualified but was unable to attend.
With an even number of games won, the final was played between Walterson and Leiper, with the cup being presented in due course to Leiper by president Bob Brandie.
The final weekend of the season saw half the members represent the Royal British Legion and half represent the club in a 16-end triples game.
The total shot score determined the winning team.
The club finished by winning all but one of the games and when the shots were totalled, the Legion finished with 75 shots against the club’s 109.
The winning trophy was presented to the club president Brandie by the Legion’s representative Ian Scott.
