SHETLAND’S historic Scottish Cup adventure came to an end at the hands of Championship league leaders Rossvale WFC on Sunday.
Rossvale, who had won their past seven league matches, went into Sunday’s second round tie in Kirkintilloch as strong favourites.
And so it proved, as Rossvale ran out 4-0 winners to move into the third round.
Shetland however have earned immense credit for their Scottish Cup run, which has taken them through three ties and into the competition proper for the very first time.
The blues overcame Stewarton Annick, Aberdeen West End and Musselburgh Windsor – with three of their four fixtures away from home.
ROSSVALE WFC paid tribute to Shetland Women’s FC for the lengths the team have gone to in order to play their Scottish Cup matches this year.
The club said Shetland had given a “fantastic platform” to the women’s game through their dedication and determination to fulfil their fixtures.
“The hurdles our opponents had to overcome just to play the tie shows a remarkable attitude of these players to play the game they love,” Rossvale said.
Rossvale finished by saying that Shetland’s Scottish Cup journey had been an “inspiring story that women and girls want to play the sport no matter the hurdles”.
DELTING secured the final silverware of the men’s football season on Saturday, lifting the DFDS Joint Cup after a 3-1 win over Lerwick Thistle B.
The Jags started the brighter and took the lead at North Loch Park through Cameron Uren, though Delting soon levelled through Caleb Witt.
A double from Peter McLachlan put Delting 3-1 ahead, and though they went down to 10 men late on they held out to win the Joint Cup.

SWIMMERS from Shetland ACSC and Delting Dolphins picked up medals and new personal bests at the North district meet at Aberdeen Sports Village last weekend.
For Shetland ACSC, 14-year-old Ellie Thompson claimed silver in the 1,500m freestyle.
She also finished fourth in both the 400m and 800m freestyle events, while a PB in the 400m individual medley saw her place eighth.
Ella Winks (12) recorded personal best times in all four of her events. She finished fifth in both the 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley, seventh in the 800m freestyle and sixth in the 1,500m freestyle.
Fellow ACSC swimmer Eve Moncrieff, 13, also took on all four distance events. She finished sixth in the 1,500m freestyle and eighth in both the 400m and 800m freestyle races.
Representing Delting Dolphins, 15-year-old Julian Okroj achieved personal best times in the 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyle events.
His performances earned him a silver medal and two bronze medals in his very demanding age group.
Club-mate Stella Okroj, 12, competed in five events over the weekend. Her efforts were rewarded with gold in the 400m freestyle, silver in the 800m freestyle and bronze in the 1,500m freestyle.
Both clubs thanked NorthLink Ferries for their continued sponsorship and support.
THE MIXED volleyball league continued last Thursday, with league leaders Venture Globetrotters getting a 3-0 walkover win over Rexel.
In the other fixture Benchwarmers secured a 3-0 victory over Diggers in what proved to be an entertaining and well-fought match.
Benchwarmers took the first set 25-16 before Diggers pushed them harder in the second, which finished 25-18.
The third set was the closest of the match, with Diggers continuing to battle right to the end before Benchwarmers sealed the set 25-20 to complete the win.
A great effort from both teams, with Benchwarmers taking the points but Diggers showing plenty of fight along the way.
