Lerwick Harbour is the principal commercial port for Shetland and a key component in the islands’ economy.
The management, maintenance and regulation of the port is the responsibility of the Board of Lerwick Port Authority, which is an independent trust authority, consisting of nine non-executive and two executive members.
We are seeking to fill a non-executive vacancy on the Board from candidates with appropriate skills and experience to enable the efficient and effective discharge of the Authority’s statutory functions.
Applicants will be required to demonstrate ability and proven track record in their chosen profession and, to complement the existing range of expertise on the Board, should have professional knowledge and relevant skills and experience at senior level in one or more of the following areas:
- Management of harbours
- Industrial, Commercial, or Financial Management
- Project Management, or Economic Development
- Safety Management and Environmental Matters
Applicants will be required to work with senior and professional staff, and an ability to grasp and deal with complex issues and express your own views clearly is important, as is experience of achieving results in a board environment.
The appointment will be for a term of three years, commencing 9 July 2024. Board members are expected to devote up to two days per month to the work of the Board and are remunerated by an attendance allowance per meeting attended.
