EDITH Beattie celebrated her 100th birthday today (Thursday) with a visit from Lord Lieutenant Lindsay Tulloch and a birthday card from HM King Charles III and HM Queen Camilla.

She moved to Shetland in 1946, where she lived in St Olaf Street in Lerwick with her late husband Andy, who was manager at Hay & Company.

In her youth Edith played hockey for Shetland many times, and now enjoys playing bridge and scrabble.

Shetland Islands Council said Edith had only recently moved to the ET and Taing care home in Lerwick, and had received many visitors today.

She will celebrate her centenary with a birthday party on Saturday, organised by son Alan and care centre staff.
