Former Brae toilets sell at auction for £5,000
THE FORMER public toilets in Brae have been sold at auction for £5,000.
The toilets originally had a guide price of £10,000, but this was dropped to £5,000 prior to today’s (Thursday) auction.
Records appear to show an individual buying them from Shetland Islands Council in November last year for £550.
The public loos at Skelladale have been closed for more than ten years.
There had been talk of a potential takeover by the community previously, but this did not come to fruition.
The host of the online auction, held via Auction House Scotland, said the toilets offered a “unique development opportunity”.
The first bid came in at £4,000, with a “Mr T” the eventual winner at £5,000.
Property website Rightmove had previously said the premises offered a “blank canvas for investors, developers, or those seeking an unconventional project” – subject to planning approval.
The site includes the former toilets plus a small piece of land between the building and the public pavement.
