America-bound Shetlanders sought for World Cup group photo
ARE YOU America-bound to cheer on Scotland with the Tartan Army?
Shetlanders jetting off to the United States for the Fifa World Cup are being encouraged to take part in a group photo this weekend before they go.
James Milne, who is part of the Brae Tartan Army contingent, has organised the get-together to show the strength of Shetland support that will be travelling out to America.
The group photo is taking place at the Gilbertson Park in Lerwick at 6pm on Saturday 6 June.
Milne said it would be great to get as many people from Shetland who are going out to the World Cup – either with tickets or without – to come together for a group photo.
Folk are encouraged to wear Scotland tops, kilts and take flags if they want to as well.
A large group of Shetlanders are expected to descend on Boston and Miami over the next two weeks to welcome Scotland back to the Fifa World Cup.
Scotland will take on Haiti in their first World Cup match for almost 30 years on Saturday 13 June in Boston, before meeting Morocco on Friday 19 June.
They close out their group campaign with a tie against five-time champions Brazil in Miami on Wednesday 24 June.
Watch parties back home in Shetland are also proving popular, with the Haiti match set to kick off at 2am on Sunday 14 June UK time.
The Lerwick Legion said it had almost sold out of tickets for its screening of the Haiti match, while the Marlex and Masonic Lodge in Lerwick also applied for extended licences to show the game.
Sandwick Social Club and Mossbank’s Welcome Inn will also stay up later to watch the Haiti game, with Scalloway Boating Club also applying recently for extended licences to screen all three of Scotland’s group games.
