SSEN should not be calling the shots
SSEN is holding a series of six “consultations” from 29 June until 2 July, at various locations targeted for the next onslaught of their massive projects.
Anyone with an “interest” is encouraged to attend. “Hugely concerned” would be more apt, as the community is feeling totally overwhelmed by the number and scale of these proposals.
What SSEN conveniently choose to disregard, is that what is taking place affects everyone, regardless of which part of Shetland you reside. They are dividing the islands with separate meetings, which only details the element of the project relating to that area. It is impossible to attend all six consultations; how do you decide which part of Shetland is more important and more precious than another?
SSEN should not be calling the shots. Our representatives should put their heads above the parapet and call a meeting (or several) where SSEN detail the extent of their proposals in its entirety and publicly answer any questions which arise, and where the whole community is given the opportunity to be genuinely consulted.
Sustainable Shetland has already submitted a series of pertinent questions to the company, and they should be answered in the media, for all to see.
Further significant industrialisation is planned, unless we are willing and prepared to fight for our islands.
