A DOG has been recovered safe and well after going over the cliffs near Heylor today (Thursday).

A coastguard rescue operation was mounted after the two-year-old collie Whisp ended up 30 metres down the banks in the North Mainland at around 11am this morning.

Coastguard crews used rope equipment to ensure the animal could be rescued safely and lifted back up.

It was returned safely to its owner shortly before 2pm.
