‘False call with good intent’ behind suspected Whalsay ordnance
A SUSPECTED piece of ordnance found in Whalsay has turned out to be a false alarm.
Police Scotland said on Saturday it had received a a report of a possible ordnance having been found on the beach between Newpark and Da Banks in Whalsay at around 9.40pm on Friday night.
Enquiries were then carried out by the coastguard and Ministry of Defence, but it was established as being a “false call with good intent”.
“The item was established as not being an ordnance,” police said.
“It was disposed of by HM Coastguard and there was no risk to the wider public.”
