FILMING on the tenth series of the popular Shetland TV programme is set to start next week, the BBC has announced.

BBC Scotland said details of the guest cast for the new series of the show would be revealed soon too.

It comes as calls have begun to go out to locals in Shetland to play extras in the upcoming season.

Ferry drivers and passengers are being sought for scenes to be shot in the middle of April, with an appeal also for a toddler to act as a child double.

It will be actress Ashley Jensen’s third series leading Shetland as DI Ruth Calder, and follows fast on the heels of series nine of the programme – which was screened on the BBC in late 2024.

She stepped into the role following the departure of Douglas Henshall, who led the programme as DI Jimmy Perez for seven seasons.

No details have been provided yet as to the plot of the new series, or when it might be screened.
