Shetland News to host the Sheeks Aboot Shetland podcast
SHEEKS Aboot Shetland, the latest addition to the isles’ news media landscape, will from now on also be hosted on Shetland News.
The podcast, launched in April by veteran journalists Jane Moncrieff and Pete Bevington, has become a platform to discuss local issues in a “lightsome…but not lightweight” manner.
In the run-up to the Scottish election on 7 May, Bevington and Moncrieff spoke in depth to most of the local candidates, and newly elected MSP Hannah Mary Goodlad plans to return for the third time next week to speak about her first few weeks at Holyrood.
The pair have also explored the concept of ‘lightsomeness’ with Daniel Gear of Voar Energy and the impact of the closure of the Scalloway pool on the local community.
Launching the collaboration with Shetland News, the website’s editor Hans J Marter features in the latest podcast, published today (Thursday), in which the trio ‘sheeks aboot’ the recent election, the industrial development of the islands, community consultations and the idea of a Citizen’s Assembly.
Marter said: “I am very pleased to have persuaded Jane and Pete that promoting their podcast through Shetland News is the logical thing to do.
“It feels like a natural progression, as Pete was a partner in Shetland News from 2003 until 2016, and Jane, while working for the BBC, produced a series of Shetland Voices podcasts for this website which are all still available to listen to.”
Bevington said: “The Shetland Podcast and Sheeks Aboot Shetland was a shot in the dark and we’re really happy with the way it’s gone so far and the response we’ve received.
“Now we’re looking forward to a long and happy relationship with Shetland News and the opportunities this relationship will create.”
Shetland News will be providing the whole back catalogue of Sheeks Aboot Shetland podcasts here and will run a short news story alerting readers to any new uploads.
Sheeks aboot Shetland is also available via The Shetland Podcast channel on YouTube and on Facebook.
