Shetland Hockey speak about pitch proposals before council vote
Sheeks Aboot Shetland – Episode 14
On Wednesday 1 July, local councillors face a decision that could make or break the future of hockey in Shetland, a popular sport especially for women in the isles.
Suffering from setbacks initially caused by decisions made at an international level many years ago, an opportunity has recently arisen to revive the sport locally while saving the council cash as part of the new Brae school project.
It might sound like an all too rare win-win scenario, however local politics appears to be raising its head and putting the proposal for a new hockey pitch in Lerwick in doubt.
In this podcast Shetland hockey captain Rhiannon Inkster and coach Derek Leask explain the ins and outs of this unusual story, which raises more issues than just the future of a sport where Shetland lasses excel.
