Court / Sandwick man bailed after appearing from custody
A SANDWICK man accused of abusing his partner and then breaching his bail conditions has appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court.
Steven Jamieson, 53, appeared from custody on Thursday afternoon after being arrested for breaching his bail a day earlier.
Jamieson is accused of repeatedly acting in an aggressive manner and of repeatedly uttering offensive and threatening remarks to his partner at their Sandwick address between 15 April and 6 May this year.
He is also accused of repeatedly waking her from her sleep.
Having been bailed on 6 May and ordered not to approach or contact certain members of his family, Jamieson was then arrested for breaching those conditions.
He offered no plea when appearing on Thursday, with the case to be continued next Wednesday.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie did not oppose bail, but did object to Jamieson being allowed to stay at his mother’s address.
The court heard that Jamieson wanted to be allowed to stay at his mother’s, which was in close proximity to his partner’s address.
Mackenzie said it would be “almost inevitable” that Jamieson would breach bail conditions again if allowed to live so close to his former partner.
“The prospect of him living immediately adjacent to the complainer … that causes me grave concerns,” he added.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said Jamieson alternatively could be allowed to stay in an address in Quarff, but said he had not been able to confirm with the homeowners that would be okay.
He said Jamieson’s domicile could be listed as Allan’s office for the purposes of the bail citation, until he could confirm his new address.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank bailed Jamieson until next Wednesday, under the special condition that he does not approach or contact, or attempt to approach or contact, his partner.
He was told that this related to in-person contact, social media messages or asking another person to contact them on his behalf.
For the purposes of bail, he listed Jamieson’s bail address as Allan’s office.
