Court / Woman fined after driving while licence was revoked
A TWENTY nine year old woman has been fined after driving without a valid licence or insurance.
Danielle Clelland, of Ladies Drive, Lerwick, was stopped by police at around 11pm on 17 April last year so that officers could offer her advice about a defective light on her vehicle.
But on stopping her, they realised Clelland’s licence had been revoked and, as a consequence, she was driving without valid insurance.
Clelland admitted the charges, with the case calling at Lerwick Sheriff Court today (Thursday).
Defence agent Tommy Allan said his client had moved addresses around three times over the years, but had not told the DVLA about her change of address.
That led to her missing a letter about her licence being revoked.
Clelland had insurance for the vehicle, he said, but it was rendered invalid because of the situation with her licence.
Since the incident Clelland had successfully obtained her licence again, he told the court, and said her licence was important to her as a mother of three children.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank handed Clelland a cumulo fine of £500 for the two offences, and endorsed her licence with six penalty points for driving without insurance.
