Man placed under supervision after ‘alarming and distressing’ incident
A MAN who exposed himself to a woman staying in his house has been ordered not to contact her and placed under supervision.
Daniel Watson, whose address was given as Buxton in Derbyshire, admitted exposing his genitals to the woman in the Whiteness bedroom she was sleeping in on 21 September 2025.
Watson, 50, repeatedly apologised to the woman after she raised the alarm about the incident to Watson’s former partner – who lived with him at the time.
Despite his apologies, Watson later told police he did not think the incident was “as bad as it was made out”.
Watson walked into a bedroom being used by the complainer in the middle of the night, while naked from the waist down.
She told him “in no uncertain terms” to leave. The complainer was “extremely scared” and went through to another room in tears.
Watson had already messaged her to apologise by this point.
The woman left Shetland the next day, with Watson again messaging her that he “couldn’t work out why I thought that was an okay thing to do”.
But when interviewed by police, Watson “didn’t seem to acknowledge or accept the seriousness” of his offending.
Defence agent Tommy Allan said the incident had been a “big lesson learned for him”, and that Watson realised he had problems with his drinking.
Sentencing had been deferred for the preparation of a social work report, which Allan described as “fairly detailed”.
Sheriff Robert Frazer said that the incident “must have been alarming and distressing” for the woman involved.
He told Watson that the complainer was “not someone you were particularly friendly with and certainly not intimate with”.
The sheriff placed Watson under supervision for one year and ordered him not to approach or contact the complainer for one year as well.

Watson was ordered to carry out a rehabilitation ability requirement over 20 days, and was told he would be placed on an alcohol abstinence programme for 120 days.
The sheriff also told Watson that he was “extremely fortunate” that he would not be placed on the sex offenders’ register because of the Scottish sentencing guidelines for the offence.
He warned Watson that the sentence was imposed as a direct alternative to a prison sentence, and told him if he appeared in court again for a similar offence a “very, very different” sentence would be handed down.
