News / Low carbon vehicles

SHETLAND’S public bodies have been awarded £77,000 to encourage them to use low carbon vehicles.

The money comes from a £4.2 million Scottish government pot to help reduce carbon emissions, and follows a similar £4.3 million programme last year.

Infrastructure secretary Alex Neil said the money was to encourage local authorities and their community planning partners to use electric vehicles and develop a network of charging points.

In Shetland £29,000 has been allocated towards setting up charging points and £48,000 towards buying vehicles.
