SHETLAND Rugby welcomed Glasgow Warriors full back Josh McKay to Clickimin for a coaching session with the club’s junior teams on Sunday morning.

The club said it was “delighted” to have McKay in the isles to give a masterclass to Shetland’s budding rugby talent last weekend.

The Warriors player led separate sessions for the primary school and secondary-aged sections, which were both attended by plenty of enthusiastic youngsters keen to learn from a professional player.

The youngsters enjoyed games of tag rugby with McKay, while the P4-7 players were encouraged to try to beat the speedy full back in a race across the North Loch Park pitch.

McKay also demonstrated passing and kicking techniques to the teams, while a game of rugby baseball was particularly well received.

Club president Jon Pulley said they had to thank junior coach Ian Pottinger for putting the arrangements in place with Glasgow Warriors to make the sessions happen.

“The enthusiasm from our junior players was great to see – especially early on a Sunday morning.

“That was reflected in the Q&A at the end of each session, with some great questions being asked.

“We’d also like to extend our thanks to both Glasgow Warriors, as well as to Josh himself for giving up his time while here on holiday to come along and coach, teach and inspire our young players.

“You are welcome back any time.”
