RED Shoes Theatre is returning to the stage for a new play called You Made Me, which is written by director Stephenie Georgia.
The production will be performed in Mareel on Tuesday and Wednesday (8 and 9 September).
The play centres around three protagonists across three pivotal days in their lives spanning three generations.
Exploring intergenerational trauma, identity and bystander theory, this play asks what happens when we have a choice to intervene but choose not to.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the play, Georgia said: “I had witnessed what I perceived to be misogynistic behaviour in a workplace, largely harmless but certainly an individual who did not like women – particularly those in a position of power.
“When I discussed this observation with colleagues and friends, I was stunned by the reaction of people to that word. There is still a desire in our society to brush these behaviours under the carpet, even when it is in a casual conversation with friends or colleagues.”
Limited seating will ensure each and every person has a “unique, connected performance of the play”.
Tickets are available in person or online from Shetland Arts and a discounted rate is available for those in low income households, with a recommended age rating of 12+.
REPLACEMENT parts are being fitted on equipment at the Scord Quarry this week after a couple of failures emerged.
The council said the quarry had been closed for planned maintenance during August.
“When this was completed and the test batches were being done there were two failures, in the feeding and loading mechanisms,” a spokesperson said.
The Scord quarry, located near Scalloway, produces materials like asphalt, grit and aggregate.
The largest customer of the quarry is the council’s own roads service, but it also serves the wider construction industry. It is the only local supplier of bitmac, which is used in road surfacing.
THERE are a couple of local nominations in the Women’s Enterprise Scotland awards for 2026.
Seabirds-and-Seals: The Original Noss Boat is nominated for the purpose-led business of the year prize, while Shetland Resolve is up for the rural business of the year award.
Winners will be announced by Glasgow on Thursday 29 October.
Seabirds-and-Seals co-owner Marie Leask said she was delighted with the nomination, adding that the “category means a great deal to us because our purpose has always extended far beyond simply providing a wildlife boat tour”.
Shetland Resolve’s Diane Taylor said being recognised in the rural business of the year category was “very special” – with the isles shaping the “business and the way I work”.
Women’s Enterprise Scotland was established in 2011 as a not-for-profit community interest company working to close the gender gap in enterprise participation.
GREEN Highland and Islands MSP Kristopher Leask believes the Scottish Government’s plans for the next five years are “not delivering a strong vision for Scotland’s island communities”.
“The first minister claims he wants to see thriving and sustainable island communities, but his speech did little to address the many issues facing our islands,” he said.
“Scotland’s islands deserve better than managed decline. Government’s key priorities should be tackling issues like depopulation, and inadequate public transport.”

LIVING Lerwick is now recruiting a new BID management contractor, while also calling for applications from town centre member businesses to join the board.
Current BID management company Realta Events Management will be stepping down from the role in October, and an invitation to tender has been issued for a self-employed individual or organisation with suitable skills to take on the role.
This is a flexible, part-time post, with the contract holder required to manage and plan their own time and priorities based on the business plan objectives, guidance from directors and set budgets.
