HyImpulse could be first to launch from SaxaVord
GERMAN based space company HyImpulse Technologies has reiterated its intention to launch its sub-orbital SR75 rocket from the SaxaVord Spaceport in Unst before the end of this year.
The company has just announced that it has secured a further 50 million Euros from commercial investors.
The funding will accelerate the development and commercialisation of HyImpulse’s launch services portfolio, including the second SR75 launch from SaxaVord Spaceport by the end of 2026, the company said on Wednesday.
This could well be the first ever launch from SaxaVord after an operation by another German company, Rocket Factory Augsburg, initially planned for August or September was delayed with no new date set.
SR75’s inaugural flight took place at the Koonibba Test Range in South Australia in 2024. The company is also working on the maiden flight of its SL1 rocket.
HyImpulse chief executive Christian Schmierer said the financing reflected investors’ confidence in the company.
“Our proprietary hybrid propulsion technology and suborbital and orbital services position us to meet growing demand across commercial, institutional and defence markets,” he said.
One of the investors, Jan Borgstädt of JOIN Capital Founding Partner, added: “HyImpulse has built a fundamentally leaner rocket architecture: roughly half the parts, a path to half the cost per kilogram and far less capital required to get to orbit.
“They have already proven the technology in flight. That’s why we co-led this round, and why the upcoming SR75 launch matters.”
A spokesperson for SaxaVord Spaceport said the company had no comment to make at this point.
