Council / More than 6,000 tonnes of road salt arrives to top-up stock after wintry December
MORE than six thousand tonnes of road salt has arrived in Shetland to top-up the council’s stocks following the heavy snowfall experienced in December.
The road salt was taken to Scalloway by the cargo vessel Aasfjord, and it was unloaded on Thursday straight onto the pier.
Council gritters were kept extremely busy in mid-December during the wintry weather which caused significant disruption to the roads.
A spokesperson for Shetland Islands Council said this week’s delivery was the second shipment of road salt this winter.
