Change takes many ugly guises

To be perfectly honest, I had little or no hope that the council motion would in any way prove fruitful.

My view at the time was that any motion should have centred around the council condemning the closure of Scalloway Pool, as opposed to a motion that left the issue in the hands of a seemingly disinterested chief executive.

Although, knowing my colleagues as I do, there was little hope of such a motion succeeding, but at least we would all know where we stood.

The question would be this … why on earth should the two chief executives of their respective trusts pay any attention to a chief executive whose own organisation employs the very same mantras … after all we all have to be sustainable do we not?  Aye!

As for what’s in the e-mails, it is little wonder they were not made public.   Why on earth could our chief executive suggest that Ms Black and Mr Geddes had better things to do with their time than to preside over the destiny – destruction – of the Scalloway Pool. As for the hype surrounding the issue.

Annoying it very well could be … but surely their massive salaries must help to assuage their predicaments, although God knows how the unpaid trustees assuage theirs.   If the chief executives are annoyed … boo-hoo, not half as annoyed as others.   It would be fine to discover if there was any objection within either of the trusts to the pool’s closure.

Of necessity, our keyboard dullards who have been sorely afflicted by the Dunning-Kruger syndrome, will always feel the need to mock and belittle those of us who fight for what is right.

Of course, it is often said that the difference between a genius and an idiot is that a genius recognises that there are limits.

This particular issue highlights the need for change for administering our public funds, but it is hard to see where any change will come from.

When I was a lad ‘change’ generally meant improvement, but sadly these days, change takes on many ugly guises.
