Planning round-up 16 August
THE COASTGUARD has applied for planning permission for a replacement communications mast next to its base at the Knab in Lerwick.
The proposal is for a 28m high galvanised steel lattice radio mast upon which seven folded dipole antennas and a sloping long wire antenna would be mounted.
A planning statement said the existing communications mast is reaching the end of its operational life and is in need of replacement.
“The provision of a new mast will enable the site to continue to provide a vital role within the Maritime Radio Communications network,” it added.
NHS Shetland has lodged a planning application for alterations to the former Kveldsro House Hotel in Lerwick, which it has bought to use as staff accommodation.
Among the modifications are an external pedestrian accessible ramp, parking adjustments and a covered cycle rack.
NHS Shetland plans to use the dormant hotel to accommodate healthcare workers, with £1.2 million of government funding expected to go towards the purchase and refurbishment.
PLANS for a temporary access track to link the Mossy Hill wind farm with the neighbouring Staneyhill Quarry have been approved.
The track – around 210 metres in length – would only be used during construction of the wind farm.
Work on tracks and hardstanding for Statkraft’s eight turbine Mossy Hill wind farm turbines should get underway next year.
Preparatory work recently got underway on a substation for the development near to the Ladies Drive junction off the A970, with a significant amount of excavation visible.
