News / Westerly gales cancel NorthLink’s Lerwick sailings
AS STRONG to gale force westerly winds are set to continue for another few days the New Year gets under ways with disruptions and delays for ferry passengers.
NorthLink Ferries said that its Thursday northbound service from Aberdeen would only go as far as Kirkwall and not carry on to Lerwick.
This will have repercussions for Friday’s southbound service with the Lerwick departure now cancelled.
Thursday’s (2 Jan) southbound sailing from Lerwick to Aberdeen, initially advertised to depart at the earlier time of 5pm, will now sail at 7pm.
Friday’s freight boat has been cancelled, as have all services across the Pentland Firth.
