DWP planning £1.3m refurbishment at Charlotte House
Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) operates the job centre within the Lerwick building
AROUND £1.3 million worth of improvement works could take place in Lerwick’s job centre building next year.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has applied for a building warrant to carry out internal refurbishments at Charlotte House in Lerwick.
The works would include refurbishment of toilet and kitchen facilities, replacement for floor finishes, replacement ceiling tiles and the installation of new LED lighting.
There would also be associated minor mechanical and electrical works.
It is not clear if Charlotte House will need to close during the work, but the DWP said if it did then it would be done in a way that minimises disruption.
A spokesperson for the DWP said the project was “still in its early stages”.
“We will be making important refurbishments to Charlotte House, which will improve the building for both customers and staff,” they said.
“These refurbishments form part of our wider work to improve and modernise the DWP estate, as well as deliver better value for money for taxpayers.”
The work is expected to be carried out through 2027, the DWP added.
