Sella Ness accommodation contract changes hands

| Written by Chris Cope

LOCAL business Shetland FM says it has ended its contract to run the Sella Ness accommodation camp to give company chief Frank Strang more time to dedicate to his Shetland Space Centre venture.

Sodexo, which already provides facilities management services at the Sullom Voe Terminal, took over the operation of the North Mainland accommodation block on Monday.

Shetland FM owner Strang said he decided to relinquish the contract to focus on setting up the proposed satellite launch facility in Unst.

Malthus Uniteam (UK) Limited, which owns the building, said that "minimal or no impact on day to day operations is anticipated" by the move.

The company's managing director Ian Jamieson said it is the intention for all Shetland FM employees at Sella Ness to transfer to Sodexo under the TUPE system.

"Malthus would like to thank the Shetland FM staff and senior management team for its quality service provision over the last three years, and looks forward to working with Sodexo," he said.

The complex, which can accommodate 850 people, was opened in 2011 to house workers building the nearby Shetland Gas Plant.

Facilities management company Shetland FM was awarded its contract back in 2015 from ESS Offshore.
