Charitable trust offers up extra £136k
SHETLAND Charitable Trust (SCT) is offering £136,000 in extra grant money to large local charitable organisations.
Expressions of interest can be made now for a share of the funds.
Those who meet the basic criteria will progress to a stage two application, which requires more detail.
Organisations can apply for funding to cover up to three years, which is when SCT’s financial strategy for 2025-2030 ends.
The closing date for submitting an expression of interest is noon on Friday 21 August.
The pot of £136,000 is in addition to the £10 million a year already allocated to support more than 30 community services under the large grant scheme 2027/28.
The extra money comes a few months after the SCT turned down a request from Shetland Recreational Trust for more funds ahead of the closure of its Scalloway swimming pool. The SCT said one of the reasons behind this decision was that it could risk guaranteed funding to other community organisations.
The SCT said all of its grant awards are geared towards improving life in Shetland.
SCT has four key quality of life goals: community wellbeing, individual wellbeing, everyone matters and generational fairness.
Those applying for funds are required to contribute to at least one of these goals.
Full details and forms are available on the SCT website or by email from grants@shetlandcharitabletrust.co.uk.
A meeting of the trust heard that the value of its investments at the start of June was £478 million.
However due to financial market volatility, that figure stood at £437 million at the end of March.
Since forming in 1976 with oil funds, SCT has spent hundreds of millions in the local community with regular beneficiaries including the recreational and amenity trusts as well as Shetland Arts and care homes.
