Letters / Moving beyond debate to deliver real change
I am writing to you a small piece about myself and why I’ll be voting for Hannah Mary; to further endorse my view on Hannah Mary for the upcoming election.
My name is Ian Walterson I joined the army in 1985 The Gordon Highlanders and later moved onto the The Royal Highland Fusiliers’ and finished in 2007 after completing 22 years of active service.
After that I spent six years in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Private Security Officer until I got injured in September 2012.
During that time, I spent most of my life overseas and I never voted in one single election. However, I have never voted in all my life with my firm belief was that no matter who was in power it wouldn’t have any impact on me.
As I have gotten older and wiser my views have changed and I want to spend the rest of my life and the future of the next generation to be better. I only got my electoral number in December 2025.
When I first watched Hannah Marys posts on social media, I was instantly inspired by her drive, energy and passion to make Shetland a better place to live for everybody.
Hannah Mary personally has all Shetland’s interests at heart, and I simply can’t fault her, she has be instrumental with a proven track record to get things done by getting the peak ferry fares scrapped for Shetlanders.
All this has been done without her being in power imagine what she could achieve if she was elected as the MSP for Shetland. She would deliver results not just promises.
If I had a slogan for Hannah Mary, it would probably be: moving beyond debate to simply deliver real change.
I will be the first in the queue to vote for Hannah Mary on 7 May.
