Community / Power back on in Skerries
RESIDENTS in Skerries have their power back on after engineers were able to catch a ferry to the island.
The outlying island community lost their power on Wednesday due a fault in the windy weather, with 58 customers affected.
It was estimated that supply would only be restored on Friday afternoon, but SSEN confirmed power was restored earlier today (Thursday).
Engineers had to wait until they could take the ferry to Skerries before fixing the equipment.
The fault was caused by a wire coming down on the overhead network in the wind.
Meanwhile damage to the overhead network in Shetland’s south mainland saw supply disrupted for around 300 customers before it was restored by 1.30pm.
The SSEN Power Track website is also showing problems with power supply in Unst.
A spokesperson for SSEN said they would like to thank customers for their patience, while they apologised for any inconvenience caused.
