Transport / Bluemull Sound ferry disruption to continue for rest of week
Councillor Thomson says the ‘fragility of our service’ has been highlighted
THE BLUEMULL Sound ferry service will remain restricted for the rest of the week due to staffing issues.
On Monday (26 July) a spokesperson for Shetland Islands Council said a crew member returned a positive Covid-19 test.
A single vessel service running to a Saturday timetable was put in place between 6am and 6pm on Monday and Tuesday this week, but the council is now saying this will remain through to Friday inclusive.
Bookings are suspended and crews will put in extra runs where they can when there is a build-up of traffic.
Normal service, and bookings, will continue to operate every night after 6pm.
North Isles councillor Ryan Thomson, who chairs the local authority’s environment and transport committee, said the “fragility of our service” has been highlighted.
“I will continue to keep you posted as much as possible, and again I want to extend my sincere thanks to the hard working crews who are keeping traffic flowing under testing circumstances. Keep up to date with the latest information by phoning the voicebank on 01595 743971.”
