Council / Geira to remain out of action for a little while longer
THERE will be further disruption to the Bluemull Sound ferry service due to more delays with the Geira’s prolonged spell in drydock.
The Unst and Fetlar service will operate on the single vessel, single crew timetable from Monday 11 May to Saturday 16 May inclusive.
During this period, bookings will be suspended for all sailings between 6.10am and 5.25pm daily.
The council said it will “endeavour to provide additional sailings where possible”.
It is understood that an unexpected steering problem has delayed her return from dry dock in Fraserburgh.
The Geira has been out of action for a number of months due the vessel going into dry dock before delays in her return to service.
The latest return date had been scheduled for 11 May, but this been delayed further.
She is hoped to potentially be back in service next week, but this is not set in stone.
